Events, in my opinion, are highly underrated. Events are the celebrations of the best things life has to offer us. Events are something to look forward to, and something to be excited about. Events allow for creativity in all forms to be expressed in ways that capture the essence of the celebration and the people celebrating. A bachelor’s degree in Event Management in addition to holding the prestigious position of Event Chairman on the Chapter Council of my sorority, along with various workshops, internships, and real-world, event planning jobs, have more than equipped me to serve my event clients no matter what circumstance comes our way. When you work with me, you’re part of a dream team!
For this event my team and I planned a fundraiser for the Ames Community Arts Council. We started by making a SWOT analysis for this organization so we would be able to design an event that best met their wants and needs. Our fundraiser was called “Sip, Snack, Support”. We wanted to plan an event that would draw in a crowd that would be well equipped to donate along with one that had interest in the cause and feels passionately for the Ames Community Arts Council. Through site visits, marketing plans, creative planning and design, we were able to accomplish all this and more in the eyes of the council. We proposed an event to them that was interactive, under budget and inspiring.
During my time as the Events Chairman for my sorority I got the chance to plan and execute many different events. One event I did was our Winter Formal. I was in charge of every aspect of this event. I found the venue, coordinated transportation, personalized the catering and much more for approximately 300 people. I have gained skills in how to effectively plan a safe and fun event from my time as the event chairman. I had to handle many contracts and paper work that I needed to ensure everyone and everything was legally correct and held to the highest standard.
Along with planning Winter Formal I also had the chance to plan a fall bus party. For this event I chose the theme of Woodstock. Everyone who attended this event came dressed to the theme which helped to create a sense of togetherness. I worked a lot on making everyone feel welcome and included while planning events for my sorority and it is something I will make sure to implement in to every event I plan. A long with many contracts, site visits and safety plans I had to do I wanted to focus on creating a sense of belonging within such a large group of women. I planned themed events to help bring everyone together and I will continue to do find ways to bring people together within each event I plan in the future.
